I'm Steve Farley, and I'm running for State Senate in the new District 9 -- the Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, Tucson north of Speedway and west of Craycroft, and unincorporated Pima County north of Tucson.
Welcome to my campaign website. I am very happy you are taking the time to inform yourself about the choices we face here in Arizona as we head into the November 2012 election season.
It is such an honor to have served you and our community in the Arizona Legislature since you gave me your trust by first electing me in 2006. As a public artist, community activist, and political leader, I have deep knowledge of and passion for Tucson and its people, and have always sought to put those qualities to work to create a better future for all of us, even in these troubled times.
I have a proven record of rising above the partisan bickering to work with all sides for real solutions. I ask for your support to return to the Capitol to continue my work creating good jobs for Arizonans and standing tall against cuts to our kids' schools.
Please explore this website and email me if you have any questions. I will answer you personally. I want you to feel that I have earned your vote once again -- there is much work to be done.
And don't forget to sign up (in the upper right corner of this page) for the "Farley Report", my email to constituents (weekly during session, monthly off-session) that tells the details on how the Phoenix Legislature works or doesn't work, so that you can get involved. The "Farley Report" is now recognized around the country as a benchmark in government transparency, and the archives since January 2011 are now available on this website.
The Arizona Daily Star published this ringing endorsement of Steve Farley in 2010:
Farley, an incumbent, is responsive to constituents and does a commendable job keeping anyone who is interested up to date with his regular “Farley Report” e-mails about what’s happening at the Capitol.
Farley has worked across the aisle with Republicans to try to keep drivers from text-ing, and he has received national recognition for his common- sense efforts. He is also an authority on transportation issues and has an impressive command of the state budget, a talent desperately needed in this Legislature, which already faces a gaping deficit that must be fixed before June 30.
Farley was one of the Democratic lawmakers who toured the state last session with legitimate alternatives to the draconian budget the Republican majority pushed through, which was heavy on cuts to public education, health care for kids and human services.
Farley has good ideas, he’s doesn’t demagogue, and he’s the kind of creative, critical thinker Arizona needs to get through this crisis.
He rightly touts his “knowledge of the process and knowledge of the people” – those in the Legislature and in Tucson – as assets.
We like that Farley is realistic and clear about what must be done to help Arizona. “You can’t really secure the border by appearing on Fox News or CNN,” he said.
